Some information you may like to know if you are unfamiliar with Mumble:

We hope you enjoy the new Mumble server. Hosting our own server this means added savings, (not having to pay seperate leased server fees to a third party) less latency, and improved audible quality. Slots? No longer limited. Currently set at 200 slots, and easily expandable to 1000.

Please feel free to post any questions, concerns or feedback. Thank you!

    Troubleshooting

It is helpful when asking for assistance to include:

The specific error you are receiving
    Mumble client version
    Your OS/Operating System

Notice: Your certificate is stored on your PC. This means if you reinstall windows, wipe your hard drive, or the like; you will no longer be able to log in unless you made a copy of your old cert somewhere and replace it. This also applies to logging in from a computer that does not have a copy of your cert on it.

If you unknowingly did this already, you can try creating an alternate account like Johndoe2 or ask me to remove your old account (please specify the name if different from the forum) from the server so you can make a new one (which I'm more than happy to do).

I have mumble, just never used it.

pulling up a few hosting sites, it seems to be much cheaper to run.

    How is the quality?

Currently in addition to. However it is our goal to phase out Vent and make the transition to Mumble once the pre-paid subscription for our third party Vent server runs out.

Die-hard vent users will still have the option to use the vent server, however it will be up to those users to maintain the rental fees each month if so desired by using the group pay link: https://cp.light-speed.com/group-pay...c6MDAwMjYyOTE=
HFC will no longer 'officially' promote or support its use (monetarily) as we have in the past, and will be changing site documentation to reflect changes made in support of the free application Mumble.

    @Kallikrates
Cheaper, (free in our case since we have a copy installed on our own server (no need for hosting)) and reportedly lower latency, and higher audible quality. And some things I've noticed myself is an easier to use interface, and in general more user friendly than that of Vent.

FWIW, I've used Mumble in the past as part of 200+ player fleets in EVE Online and it rocked!

I was wondering when this thread would popup. I have been using Mumble for about half a year now, and there are about 4-5 features that are above and beyond anything that Ventrilo offers. Because of this, I would rate Mumble as being 10 times better than Ventrilo. Screen Overlays and latency will be the features that new users will notice the most.

The vastly superior quality and latency is due to Mumble getting rid of any background noise (interference) before sending packets. This helps cut down dramatically on how much latency and buffering is required, and makes the quality a hell of a lot better. It does process the audio output quite a bit more locally to achieve this.
