    Hello!

I must mirror my the above post in my curiosity behind your gaming name.

I noticed you marked your Vent usage as a (1) so I'll explain it a little. Ventrilo (or Vent for short) is a free Voice over IP (VoIP) program that allows us to talk in real time as we play. It's extremely handy for STF's and raids. Even for casual chatting, it's extremely useful.

A Japanese speaker? I'm jealous man, I've been wanting to learn that language for a couple of years now. Is it difficult to pick up?

    My only (other) question:
What really appeals to you in STO? What is it that keeps you coming back for more?

There isn't too much of a story behind the name, I'm afraid. I got an Xbox 360 in the summer of 2008, put a lot of thought into what my gamertag would be, and ended up choosing TheElusiveHobo. I just thought it sounded good.

Japanese really isn't that difficult to learn. A lot of people get intimidated by all the characters, but once you get past that, it's fairly intuitive.

I actually just started playing Star Trek Online a few days ago, though I do have previous experience with MMOs. So I only came in with F2P on Steam, and as I haven't purchased any additional character slots, I only have one character, a level 10 Vulcan Science Officer named T'Reyk on the Holodeck Server.

I have found that I like to fill niches in multiplayer games. For example, when I play Team Fortress 2, I will play any major class that is not currently being played, generally Medic (which, lucky for me, is tied with Scout for my favourite class). When I first booted up STO, I correctly inferred that most people would be playing Tactical Officers, and Operations didn't align with what I had in mind for my character, so I made a Science Officer. My playstyle varies according to which RPG I'm playing, but for STO, I think I'll favour working behind the scenes and thinking strategically.

Having only a level 10 character, I obviously have yet to plumb the depths of the mechanics, but STO seems like a very well designed game. Both the ground and starship combat are frenetic and complex, it's well written, and it manages to look, sound and feel very much like Star Trek.

As for my relationship with Star Trek itself, I grew up with the franchise. It's actually been there since before I can remember, mostly because my entire family enjoys it. Star Trek: The Next Generation is one of the first TV shows I can remember watching. I was a full-blown "Star Trek Nerd" for a couple of years in junior high, and however busy I've been with other things, I've never completely fallen away from it. So Star Trek Online touches on a very deeply rooted nerve. I was aware of Star Trek Online before it launched, but it received mediocre reviews, so I shied away from it. However, unlike most games, an MMO has the potential to improve significantly following a shaky launch, so when it went free to play, I decided to give it a look. It was like re-uniting with an old friend. I felt very real joy the first time my character used a transporter.

Love having the medic class in the back to keep me healed while I hack away with my bat'leth!

I guess the only question left is..... It's cold outside what should I do?

It's cold outside what should I do, you say?

It depends on what you have. We've got a fair bit of snow up here right now, and for a long time, I've wanted to take my inexhaustible Doberman to the park, tie him to a toboggan and have him pull me around until we crash into a tree. Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to do that. Live my dream, Pope! Live the dream that I can't! If you don't have a big dog, find one!

I'm not generally a sports fan, so that won't be a problem.

How many trips to Vulcan have you done?
Perhaps you'd feel more comfortable talking to Snappy the Alligator.
