For those of you still waiting to get into Star Wars: The Old Republic, your anticipation is well founded. Since my first report on the start of my “saga”, I have been able to get through the prologue, reach level 10, and was rewarded with my very first lightsaber.

Every week BioWare gives fans some new information about its upcoming MMORPG, Star Wars: The Old Republic. This week's update doesn't exactly contain any new revelations per se... but it does give us a wealth of detail about the game's player vs player battles. A number of tidbits about the upcoming Star Wars: The Old Republic MMORPG were revealed at a panel at New York Comic Con last week. While some features found in other games will not be added, such as a dungeon-finder functionality from World of Warcraft, the SWTOR panel was able to give concrete stats on the flashpoints, or dungeons, that will be available at the game's launch.

The Force was strong at PAX 2011, and BioWare's presence was unmistakably huge. Lines wrapped around the studio's booth at all hours of the day, with hundreds of hungry gamers itching to get their hands on Star Wars: The Old Republic.

In the new video released by BioWare, we are shown that brute force is not the ultimate power in the universe. Sometimes the power of the mind carries far greater dominion over your enemies than a physical assault. The Sith Inquisitor commands the Force with a thought and defeats her foes with a wave of her hand.

There are clearly many games that have deep, engaging back stories that designers and writers have worked tirelessly to develop, but in the game, the player only sees what their character sees. Often times, the rich back story is used only for the context of quests, and players never really get the bird’s eye view of the narrative. The ‘big picture’ can become even more confusing and incomplete if the player misses a quest or discovers key plot points out of order.
